Clinical decision-making in CMC-1 OA

The aim of this questionnaire is to understand how hand surgeons and hand therapists make treatment choices for patients with CMC1 osteoarthritis. Specifically, we look into the influence of patient goals, mindset, and treatment expectations.

In this questionnaire, we ask you to keep in mind an average patient with CMC1 OA when you make your treatment choice. For example, your patient is female, 58 years old, works part-time (light to moderate work), and this is her first visit to your clinic.

To manage expectations, a clinician needs to know three elements: whether the patient has a more positive or a more negative mindset and expectations, and whether these expectations are realistic or not.

We ask you that when you make your treatment choice, you do this regardless of guidelines, protocols or what you can offer in your place of work.

Thank you for taking the time to fill in the questionnaire!
